Why not uproot your family and travel the world for a year, meandering eastward from country to country, spending a month or so in twelve countries?
Why not–especially when your college grants you sabbatical and you’re obligated by contract to write every day.
So off we go, the three of us–Jim the papa, Dolora the mama, Liam the 10-year-old son–with just our possessions on our back for a year, out to speak other languages, eat other foods, observe other doorknobs, wonder about other religions.
The rough itinerary: California to Cleveland to New York City, to Sweden, to Italy, to Greece, to Turkey, to India, to Sri Lanka, to Vietnam and Cambodia and Laos and Thailand, and finally to Indonesia before limping home.
Let the great world spin.
